University working in double shifts !!!!!

University of Mumbai is permitting colleges to offer their popular courses in double shift. In other words, student intake capacity for colleges will automatically double. For lakhs of college students, the chances of getting into their desired college and selecting their subjects of interest just got better.

This sudden move in line with the thinking of National Knowledge Commission chairman Sam Pitroda who, in his speech at last year’s university convocation, had spoken of maximising the utilisation of existing infrastructure.

Though its a good idea but this will require lot of infrastructure as well. They will have to double the faculty because existing faculty can not be expected to work in two shifts, if they do so, it will not be justice to students.

Whole management plus supporting staff will also need to be doubled.

What about extracurricular activities ? As these activities are also a part of personality development of students, how the college will adjust their timing to fit these important activities.

In Science stream, students generally need to stay late in classes either for extra lectures or practical work, how will they manage this part ?

Lots of queries are there....though this system will allow more students to get opportunity in their desired area. Lets hope for the best.
