Ill Indian cricket Team-Scope for new players

India is in trouble with its 8 out of 14 players suffering from fever. How are they going to select 11 players for first ODI with south africa . Though its a tough situation but a good opportunity for young players to prove themselves. BCCI is sending some new players to Ireland. Though They might not be able to play in first ODI but can play in second ODI depending on players health.

Its nobody's fault but Indian team is in difficult condition just before first ODI with southafrica.

Movie review- Chain Kuli Ki Main Kuli

This one’s for Sachin and for Sachin fans.

Anyway, ‘Chain....’.is about Karan ( Zain Khan ) ,a 13 year old orphan. Karan lives for cricket and is a big fan of Varun Roy (Rahul Bose), the Indian team captain. As luck would have it, Karan finds himself a magic bat, is belting out sixes by the minute and is roped in to help the Indian cricket team!

In an industry where entertainment for kids is almost non-existent, this Ken Ghosh production is a little sparkler. Though everyone will enjoy this movie. Its a sweet movie. Rahul Bose is again superb and Zain khan is also excellent. The direction is good and director is successful in storytelling.

So Enjoy "Chain ......"

Mumbai rains-reasons to smile....

Mumbai first heavy rains

Mumbai got its first taste of heavy showers on Saturday as rains lashed Mumbai in the evening, leading to flooding in various parts and disruption of traffic. Train services on the central line between Kurla and Ghatkopar were disrupted for sometime. Thunderstorms coupled with strong winds and heavy showers also brought operations at the Mumbai airport to a standstill for about half-an-hour in the evening, causing delays in schedules.

Colaba received the heaviest rain of 60 mm in one hour during late evening, said municipal commissioner Jairaj Phathak. The weather bureau has predicted rain/thundershowers with “possibilities of very heavy rains’’ on Sunday.

The first heavy rain itself has proven that BMC and MMRDA has not done their job completely as we could see water logging at many places, traffic problems because of incomplete roadside constructions.

We wish that we will not have to experience 26/7 again. Hoping that, enjoy rains........

She holds three records for female space travelers: longest spaceflight (195 days), number of space walks (four), and total time spent on spacewalks (29 hours and 17 minutes).

Though It will take sometime for Sunita williams to start her routine life at earth as after a long stay, she will have to get acclimatize in earth's atmosphere. We are proud of Sunita Williams.

President polls and Controversy

President polls were never like this before. There was a feeling of respect for any candidate who fights for president post, all candidates were used to be "Bedag". We have never seen political games being played in president election but this time scenario is different.
The presidential polls have assumed a murky hue with the widow of a murdered Congress leader from Jalgaon in Maharashtra surfacing in the national capital to accuse UPA-Left nominee Pratibha Patil of shielding her brother, G N Patil, one of the prime accused in the case being probed by the CBI.

A notice from the Mumbai Central District Co-operative Bank—popularly known as Mumbai Bank—to a Jalgaon sugar factory floated by Pratibha Patil, UPA candidate for the presidential poll, for default of a loan to the tune of Rs 17.70 crore has created a flutter in political circles.

All these allegation could be a part of political game but there might be something fishy which is not a good sign for Indian politics.

A new hope for Cancer patients

A“golden bullet” treatment for cancer that tracks down tumours before wiping them out with a blast of heat is to be tested on patients within weeks, it has emerged. The “seek and destroy” technique uses an injection of microscopic glass spheres, coated in gold, which seek out potentially deadly cancers in the body. Once enough spheres have flocked to the tumour, doctors “activate” them using a low energy beam of light. In tests, tumours have been totally destroyed. Unlike conventional cancer treatments, the golden bullet approach uses no toxic chemicals and no radiation, reducing the risk of unpleasant side effects.

When it was tried on nine mice with colon cancer, the tumours were destroyed. Professor Jennifer West, of Rice University, Texas, who helped develop the treatment said clinical trials on cancer patients are expected to begin in the US “within weeks”.

The first phase will find out whether the treatment successfully kills off tumours. “From the work we have done so far, we believe that this therapy will work on any softtissue tumours, such as the breast, prostate, brain, skin, head, neck and cervix,” she said. DAILY MAIL

We are with you Dr Kalam

Another twist in president polls, when APJ Abdul Kalam declared his readiness to contest if there is certainty of his win.
UPA claimed that they are not going to change their stand and will stick to Pratibha patil. UPA allies will also support congress move. But UPA should also be under pressure because Kalam is very famous among kids and youth and hero of middle class. NDA partners prefer Kalam while Left opposes Kalam. Seeing the statistics, its difficult situation for Kalam to win, but lets see what happens in UPA meeting on thursday.
Youth guns support Dr Kalam. What do you think ?

I can feel your pain

Do you feel a touch on your own skin when you watch someone else being touched. This is a conditon called Mirror touch synaesthesia. Synaesthesia refers to the merging of senses that are normally experienced separately: 'seeing' music, for example, or experiencing different colours as tastes. It is known that when we observe others moving, or hear them speak, the same neural circuits are activated in our brains as would be activated if we were moving or speaking ourselves. Scientists suspect that this mirror system may be important in empathy — understanding why others behave as they do. Perhaps as a consequence, they also show more emotional empathy than normal people.
There may be a lot of such people around, since they are unaware that that they have the condition. They think it is normal. There is a nice correlation between emotional empathy and this interesting condition of synaesthesia.

Though It does not sound to be a problem but whether or not hyperactivity of the mirror system directly causes the heightened empathy, needs to be understood.

SRK in "Chak De India"

Yash Raj Films who are known for maintaining secrecy about their film plots will soon announce their next 'Chak De India' starring Shah Rukh Khan, after the release of 'Jhoom Barabar Jhoom'. According to industrysources, Shah Rukh Khan will play the role of an Indian hockey playerMir Ranjan Negi in the movie. Significantly, Shah Rukh hasn't ever played such a character before though he isn't new to the sport. He has been a college level player of hockey. In 'Chak De India' he will act as a hockey coach to girls. This is to recall that Negi had played a goalkeeper of the Indian hockey team during the Asian Games 1982, and faced a defeat with the score of 1-7 against Pakistan. To avenge this humiliating experience, he vowed to coach the National Women's hockey team that later won Gold at the Manchester Commonwealth games.
It will be interesting to see Sharukh coaching girls hockey team !!!!!
But Sharukh fans " you will have to wait till august to see this movie."

Who will be our next president ?

The most asked question in front of us is who should be our next president? A. P. J. abdulkalam or Bharoin singh shekhawat or Pratibha Patil. I think Kalam Ji is the best as he is not influenced by the politics and famous among youths. he is like inspiration for today's youth and youths are the future of country. I hope, Dr Kalam listens to voice of youths and should fight for president post.

As decision of UPA to put pratibha patil for president candidature was surprise for her, it was a shock to me. We do not want a rubber stamp, but the person who can not be influenced by political pressure and whose presence at the post of president can make us feel proud. Any comments !!!!!!!

Rightly said by Bhairon singh shekawat today, "If Dr Kalam fights for president post, I will take my candidature back."
We need a strong president.

Gopal Kundu controversy

A controversy still rages over a research paper of a cell biologist which was withdrawn from an international peer-review journal on charges of "scientific misconduct" but given a clean chit by a panel of eminent scientists. The clean chit has been challenged by an academic watchdog. In the eye of the controversy is Gopal Kundu, an award winning cell biologist at the Pune-based National Centre for Cell Sciences (NCCS), whose research paper was withdrawn by the Journal of Biological Chemistry in February after it found that the data used in it was reproduced from a previously published paper.

The journal retracted the paper in February 2007 after an investigation prompted by an anonymous email. The authors were told that the paper contained "data that was reproduced without citation and with different labelling" from a paper the same group had published in 2004 (Rangaswami, H., Bulbule, A. & Kundu, G. C. J. Biol. Chem. 279, 38921–38935; 2004). Journal editors claimed the errors amounted to "deliberate misrepresentation".

Kundu and his team deny this, saying that both papers described similar experiments run on very similar cell types. "The apparent similarity between two loading control blots — out of the 100 or so blots in the papers — did not affect the conclusions in any way," adds first author Hema Rangaswami, now a postdoc at the University of California in San Diego. "We feel JBC's decision to withdraw our paper was totally unfair." But Shelagh Ferguson-Miller, chair of the publications committee for the journal's publisher, says that it does not plan to reconsider the paper's withdrawal.

A seven-member committee, set up by the Department of Biotechnology, which oversees the NCCS, appears to back up Rangaswami's claims. In its 30 May report, the committee said the allegations were baseless. "Our detailed investigation shows there was no manipulation," says Govindarajan Padmanabhan, chairman of the committee. He adds that the journal did not analyse the researchers' raw data, but instead relied on image analysis of published figures. Padmanabhan says the committee plans to appeal to the journal to rescind the withdrawal.

But the SSV claims its own findings, released on 28 April, suggested that the group fabricated images in the second paper from blots in the first paper. Sohan Modak, a former member of the centre's governing council and whose complaint launched the SSV investigation, says he remains convinced the images are the same.
The jury may still be still out, but Kundu has already paid a price. His nomination to the fellowship of the Indian National Science Academy has been held up. And Rangaswami's PhD hangs in the balance: she has not yet been called to defend her thesis at Pune University.

Is n't there something fishy about so much noise about Gopal kundu controversy. Is there any possibility that JBC made the decision of retraction of kund's paper in hurry. Is this the price, Gopal kundu and his student Rangaswami paying because of being Indian !!!! Truth needs to come out, whatever it is ??????

Human-animal !!!!!

Man and beast mingle in the mythical creatures of classical literature. The centaur combines man and horse; the mermaid joins girl with fish. Now several research groups in the UK are seeking permission to mix humans and animals in a different way. Rather than creating fantastical beasts, scientists hope to make lenses to peer into real human diseases. By combining human nuclei with unfertilized animal eggs, they are seeking better understanding of and treatments for inherited diseases.

The most recent proposal is to swap the nucleus of an unfertilized animal egg with one from a patient carrying a genetic disease, with the hope of deriving embryonic (ES) stem cell lines. These cells would carry the genetic susceptibilities of the disease and could be used in drug screening to find compounds that prevent changes characteristic of the disease.

These proposals have sparked serious debate and some ludicrous headlines. Its a serious ethical question. Should it be done ?

Making human-animal embryos for scientific experiments should be allowed because of the benefits to science and medicine. Though Such embryos should never, however, be implanted into either a woman or an animal, said the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Details report can be accessed in "Nature reports Stem Cells".

Movie review- Jhoom barabar Jhoom-waste of money

Jhoom barabar Jhoom- such a bogus movie, senseless, height of stupidity !!!!!! Simply waste of money. I had never expected this kind of movie from Aditya chopra, having such a star cast Amitabh, Abhishek, Preety and Bobby Deol.

This film moves around only one hit song Jhoom barabar Jhoom. This song is mind blowing, there is nothing else in the movie.

There is no story at all. Filmmaker has failed to convey whatever they wish to say, no entertainment as well.

Totally faltoo movie. Seeing such a nice trailer and listening lovely song jhoom barabar jhoom, i booked the ticket one week in advance and I am sure many of us must have done the same thats why so much of disappointment. One thing i understood, publicity ke dam par, one can sell anything !!!!!

Is there any option of Rahul dravid as captain

After world cup loss, we keep on speaking about removal of senior players after their shameful failure. Finally sehwag and bhaji are out of the team but one thing keeps me wondering, how come Rahul dravid is still maintaining his position as captain of Indian team. But then if we see, there is no choice available right now. Position of senior players Ganguly and Sachin is not stable in team others are too young to bear the responsibility. So can we say Dravid is " Andhon mein kane Raja". Any comments !!!!!!

world class genomics and proteomics facility in India

The Centre for Genomic Application (TCGA) - a collaboration between the IGIB [a Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) organization which is supported by the Department of Science and Technology (DST)] and IMM-The Chatterjee Group, a Kolkata-based industrial house is working towards providing world class genomics and proteomics facilities in India. It is the first to be built by a public–private partnership. It also symbolizes the current revolution in India's biotechnology industry. The centre provides facilities for the folowing-

This centre is truely applicable in indian condition, equipped with all latest instruments to provide current technologies in India to maintain need of our researchers in this cutting edge research environment. It is working like central facility, service is quite good and fast.As all labs can not buy such costly equipments on their own because of lack of funds, TCGA provides a plateform for various application at reasonable cost.
On the centre's first birthday in May 2005, TCGA acquired a new Hewlett-Packard supercomputer, the fastest in India, worth a whopping US$2.2 million. Capable of four trillion operations a second, the computer places the centre among the ranks of international institutions such as the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute in Britain and the Institute for Molecular Science in Japan.
We hope that these new technologies will help indian science grow much better than ever........

Biotechnology- Bright scope for India

India is proving its impact in the field of Biotechnology slowly but firmly, which seems to grow further in future.

With fewer than 300 registered companies, the biotechnology sector is small but is gaining in global stature. According to the World Health Organization, India is the fourth largest producer.

"The biotechnology sector is witnessing an impressive 40% annual growth," says Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, chief executive of Biocon, Bangalore.

The biggest boost to the biotechnology industry has come from the government itself. "Biotech is the government's priority area," says science minister Kapil Sibal.

As part of its strategy, the DBT is planning to make it easier for foreign-owned companies to set up in India.

The pharmaceutical industry's research and development spending has shot up from Rs2 billion in 2000 to Rs8 billion in 2004, says D. G. Shah, secretary-general of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance.

With the growing biotech industry, more trained men power is also needed.

Although the country grants nearly 300,000 degrees and diplomas in biotechnology, bioinformatics and the biological sciences each year, companies struggle to find skilled staff. "Most of them get their degrees without seeing a biotech lab," says Krishna Ella, managing director of Bharat Biotech International in Hyderabad. Most of those qualified also leave for greener pastures: up to 90% of those who finish their PhDs at the Indian Institute of Science go abroad. India needs to find ways to stem that massive brain drain, says Ella.

In addition to generating trained manpower and a knowledge base, India is proving to be an ideal setting for manufacturing activites and high-level biotechnology research programmes. With the initiatives taken by the government, Indian Biotechnology is poised for a tremendous growth.· Trained manpower and knowledge base· Good network of research laboratories· Rich Biodiversity· Well developed base industries (e.g.: pharmaceuticals, seeds)· Access to intellectual resources of NRIs in this area.· Extensive clinical trials and research - access to vast & diverse disease populations· Bio-diversity - India's human gene pools offer an exciting opportunity for genomic studies.· Agriculture being the mainstay of the masses translates into a corresponding growth of the Agribiotech sector.

So its clear that future of Biotechnology is bright and India has potential to prove ourself as we have done in IT.

Its not in movie: Its damn reality

Gangster Dawood Ibrahim’s younger brother Iqbal Kaskar will now walk freely. The Mumbai police suffered yet another embarrassment in a high-profile criminal case on Wed n e s d ay when a special court gave kaskar clean chit.
Iqbal kaskar was arrested when he mysteriously landed in India in February 2003. In yet another case, Dawood Ibrahim’s sister was booked in a case of extortion relating to a construction project. Crime branch officers have been unable to gather any clinching evidence of her involvement. Alleged Islamic militants, picked up for engineering a blast on a BEST bus, were let off due to lack of sufficient evidence. Mohammed Afroze Accused by the police of being an Al Qaida militant, he was freed by a court.
Why is it happening ? any answer !!

University working in double shifts !!!!!

University of Mumbai is permitting colleges to offer their popular courses in double shift. In other words, student intake capacity for colleges will automatically double. For lakhs of college students, the chances of getting into their desired college and selecting their subjects of interest just got better.

This sudden move in line with the thinking of National Knowledge Commission chairman Sam Pitroda who, in his speech at last year’s university convocation, had spoken of maximising the utilisation of existing infrastructure.

Though its a good idea but this will require lot of infrastructure as well. They will have to double the faculty because existing faculty can not be expected to work in two shifts, if they do so, it will not be justice to students.

Whole management plus supporting staff will also need to be doubled.

What about extracurricular activities ? As these activities are also a part of personality development of students, how the college will adjust their timing to fit these important activities.

In Science stream, students generally need to stay late in classes either for extra lectures or practical work, how will they manage this part ?

Lots of queries are there....though this system will allow more students to get opportunity in their desired area. Lets hope for the best.

Value your parents

Once upon a time.... There was a rich King who had 4 wives.
He loved the 4th wife the most and adorned her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best.
He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another.
He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidante and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her to help him get through the difficult times.
The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife and although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her.
One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and pondered, "I now have 4 wives with me, but when I die, I'll be all alone. Thus, he asked the 4th wife, "I have loved you the most, endowed you with the finest clothing and showered great care over you. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?" "No way!" replied the 4th wife and she walked away without another word.
Her answer cut like a sharp knife right into his heart. The sad King then asked the 3rd wife, "I have loved you all my life. Now that I'm dying, will you follow me and keep me company?"

"No!" replied the 3rd wife. "Life is too good! When you die, I'm going to remarry!" His heart sank and turned cold. He then asked the 2nd wife, "I have always turned to you for help and you've always been there for me. When I die, will you follow me? And keep me company?" "I'm sorry, I can't help you out this time!" replied the 2nd wife. "At the very most, I can only send you to your grave." Her answer came like a bolt of thunder and the King was devastated. Then a voice called out: "I'll leave with you and follow you no matter where you go." The King looked up and there was his first wife. She was so skinny, she suffered from malnutrition. Greatly grieved, the King said, "I should have taken much better care of you when I had the chance!" In Truth, we all have 4 wives in our lives ... Our 4th wife is our body. No matter how much time and effort we lavish in making it look good, it'll leave us when we die. Our 3rd wife is our possessions, status and wealth. When we die, it will all go to others. Our 2nd wife is our friends. No matter how much they have been there for us, the furthest they can stay by us is up to the grave.
And our 1st wife is our Parents, Often neglected in pursuit of wealth, power and pleasures of the ego. However, our Parents are the only thing that will follow us and guide wherever we go.
So Love them at our best ..... They need and Love you most!!! You are their greatest gift.

BCCI!!!! please save indian cricket from BCCI.

Today's headline "chandu borde Indian team's new manager". He was a member of the Indian team between 1958 and 1970. Following his retirement, Borde became a cricket administrator, serving as the Chairman of national selectors. He has received various awards from the Government of India for his contributions to cricket, on and off the field.
But when does BCCI leave its unprofessional attitude. Why there were not more choices for coach interview. why whatmore's name was not included.
What is the point of appointing chandu borde at the age of 73 as an alternative of coach of India.
Borde is not yet sure about his exact role. He doesn’t even know if he is expected to attend the camp starting in Bangalore from Wednesday. Then BCCI is sending Robin and venkatash prasad as fielding and bowling coach.
Actually BCCI has created this shameful situation by itself. They should have done "coach ki khoj" process much earlier and in a professional way.
Then BCCI says, the gradation system of payment would continue through the year. “The A category players will get Rs 50 lakh, B Rs 35 lakh and C Rs 20 lakh.’’
After world cup loss, it was in news that grading system will no more continue in order to improve Indian cricket and credit will be given entirely on performance basis. But may be BCCI think that public memory is short term, so when India lost in world cup they were speaking against grading system to avoid anger of public and now they forget about whatever they said earlier.

Its clear that BCCI is not thinking for betterment of indian cricket, they are busy in their own political games.

India should really think hard, what made their game so worst that they could not even qualify in super eight. India has great potential, lot of good cricket is being played at Ranji level but efforts of these young cricketers are not being highlighted. If selection of Indian team is made on the basis of only and only performance, then only Indian cricket can survive to make its place in the world. But this does not seems to be happening shortly under BCCI.

God !! please save indian cricket from BCCI.

Interested in science: career options after higher secondary

If you are a higher secondary science student, its a very obvious question generally asked by people so what are you going to do after that. The most common answer I have heard is, I will go for MBBS. Very few students would opt for going to conventional BSc courses because they think that there is no scope after doing BSc or MSc while that's not the case.
Reality is that there is lack of awareness in most of the students at higher secondary level. Now a days there are so many great career options available to science students apart from becoming Dr's.
Biotechnology is now become very glamorous word, and there is reason for that. The science of biotechnology is also used to alter genetic information in animals and plants to improve them in some way that benefits people. Because biotechnology essentially uses the basic ingredients of life to make new products, it is both a cutting-edge technology and an applied science. Analysts have predicted that biotechnology will be one of the most important applied sciences of the 21st century.
Students at higher secondary level can choose to go for graduation in Biotechnology / Biochemistry / Microbiology. BSc courses in these subjects are available in almost all universities. Students who can not do BSc in these courses because of any reason need not worry, if they are studying basic biology, they can move on to Biotech /Biochem / Microbio after their graduation for MSc. Though studying these subjects at BSc level gives an added advantage while fighting in competitive exams for admission in MSc courses. All good universities in India conduct an entrance exam for admission in MSc. JawarLalNehru univ conducts a joint entrance exam for admission to MSc Biotechnology, after passing that exam, one can get admission in any of the around 20 universities associated with JNU for combined entrance exam. Plus point of passing this test is you get a scholarship from Department of Biotechnogy (DBT).
There is one more option available for BSc students. Instead of doing MSc, they can go for integrated PhD, if they are interested to pursue their career in research. Some of the institutes, which provide facility for integrated PhD are TIFR, Mumbai ; IISC, Bangalore; NCBS, Bangalore; NBRC, Gurgaon etc. If you want to know more about these courses and admission procedure, you can directly go to these institutes websites.
For students, who feel that research is not their passion but they have interest in Biotechnology, they can opt for MBA in Biotechnology. Pune university is the first one to start this course in India.
Bio Students who also have their interest in computer science, can opt for MSc in Bioinoformatics or PG diploma in Bioinformatics. Pune university, JNU, Annamalai University are some of the good places to get in for these courses.
But if you are interested in making your career as scientist, I will advise you to either go for Integrated PhD or enter in MSc and then go for PhD. For Admission at PhD level, you need to qualify either of the scholarship, options are NET, GATE, ICMR, DBT. There are many good institutes offering PhD in biological sciences.
So you have many career options, and some of them may be better for you than becoming a dr based on your interest.

youth gun: its just beginning

As a part of the Indian youth they know that they are heading in the direction of being a part of the outside world more than their parent's, and yet being in touch more with the traditions and culture and wanting to participate in tribal affairs. The present day youth knows his/her way around better than the previous generation..the difference is that they are fast, a bit more open on being materialistic. most definitely.... isn't he living up to the newer challenges of today? Hasn't India become a brand in itself today? Would it be possible if the Indian youth was misguided?
Today's kids are much more aware of options available and are able to judge, which direction they should go into. Much of the credit goes to easy availability of information specially through easy access to net.
But still, Its YOUNG MIND, vulnerable to various factors. So some guidance is needed to make right use of youth guns to create a better place to live in.
"Youth are not useless, they are used less. They are not careless, they are cared less." as said by Swami Chimayananda .
Todays kids are muc more creative and vibrant, only thing required is to channelise the energy of youth.
Let's recommit ourselves as parents, grandparents, teachers, leaders, and all concerned adults who care about indian youth to help the youth around us feel wanted, included, and valued.
We have long way to go in order to make our India a developed country.
